Blackview Mega 2 Tablet Review: A Daily Driver?

In my free time, I love to test tech aimed at different types of audiences. Recently, I reached out to Blackview - a brand well-known for its budget smartphones - to see if they would send me a unit of their new tablet to review. They agreed, and that's how the Blackview Mega 2 ended up on my desk.

When reviewing a device like this, I always ground my opinion in two realities: the brand's history and the price tag. The Mega 2 isn't marketed as a high-end flagship; it’s a budget-friendly device. So, the real question is: what kind of experience does it actually deliver for the money?

Here is my honest, real-world review.

Technical Specifications

Before diving into the daily experience, here is a quick look at what's under the hood:

  • Display: 12-inch, 2000x1200 resolution @ 60Hz (280 hdpi)
  • Processor (CPU): Octa-core (2x Cortex-A75 & 6x Cortex-A55) - Unisoc T606/T7200
  • Graphics (GPU): Mali-G57
  • RAM: 8GB physical (expandable up to an additional 16GB virtually)
  • Storage (ROM): 128GB (expandable up to 1TB via microSD)
  • Battery: 9000mAh
  • Cameras: 16MP Rear / 8MP Front
  • Connectivity: Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, SIM slot with 4G LTE support

Design, Build & What's in the Box

Right out of the box, the Mega 2 surprised me with a robust, metal build that feels remarkably solid in the hand. I have the dark grey model (it also comes in blue), and it strikes a good balance - it’s not too heavy, but it definitely doesn't feel cheap or hollow.

What really stands out, however, is what Blackview includes in the package. It's essentially a full "workflow in a box":

  • The tablet itself
  • A protective case (which genuinely impressed me)
  • A compact keyboard (with a US International layout, which is perfect for my needs)
  • A slim mouse
  • A stylus pen
  • A glass screen protector
  • An 18W charger and USB-C cable
  • SIM tray ejector tool and documentation

All included accessories

Getting all these accessories included at this price point adds a massive amount of value, especially for anyone looking to jump straight into light productivity.

Display & Media Consumption

The centerpiece of the Mega 2 is its 12-inch display. Having a screen this large at this price is a huge plus for both media consumption and productivity.

To keep expectations realistic: the panel is capped at a 60Hz refresh rate, which is a slight letdown in a world moving towards 90Hz and 120Hz, but for the average user, it’s more than enough. The screen is bright with good colors and great viewing angles. It's perfectly usable outdoors, though you might struggle a bit in direct, harsh sunlight.

Crucially, the tablet supports Widevine L1, meaning you can stream Netflix, Disney+, and Prime Video in Full HD without any issues. (Checked with DRM Info)

On the audio front, the tablet features dual speakers. The sound is fair - not the best, but certainly not the worst. It's fine for indoor use, but don't expect it to overpower outdoor noise. Fortunately, Blackview included a 3.5mm headphone jack, so plugging in a decent pair of headphones will instantly upgrade your media experience.

Performance, Storage & "PC Mode"

Under the hood, the Mega 2 is powered by the Unisoc T606 processor alongside 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage.

Let's be clear: this is not a gaming tablet. If you want to play high-end games, look elsewhere. However, for everyday tasks - web browsing, social media, reading PDFs, and multitasking - it handles everything surprisingly well.

A big help here is the Virtual RAM feature. You can expand the RAM up to 16GB by utilizing the tablet's ROM. I enabled this right away and definitely noticed a smoother multitasking experience. For storage, 128GB is plenty for my needs, but you can expand it up to 1TB via MicroSD if necessary.

The standout feature of this tablet is its software experience. It runs Android 15 out of the box and features Blackview's PC Mode. When you connect the included keyboard and mouse, the system UI automatically shifts to a desktop-like experience complete with a taskbar, split-screen capabilities, and floating windows. It genuinely transforms the tablet into a mini-laptop for light productivity tasks. There are a few pre-installed sponsored apps, but they are easy to uninstall if you don't want them.

Cameras & Connectivity

Tablet cameras are rarely anything to write home about, and the Mega 2 is no exception. Both the front and rear cameras are just "fair". They are perfectly adequate for scanning documents or joining a video call. However, I highly recommend turning off any video filters during calls, as the SoC isn't quite powerful enough to process them smoothly and it caused my video to freeze up.

Connectivity-wise, the tablet supports a SIM card for LTE, though I mostly stuck to Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. Both performed flawlessly - the tablet caught the wireless keyboard and mouse instantly, and the connection remained stable even when working outdoors.

Battery Life & Charging

The tablet comes with an 18W charger that tops it up from 0 to 100% in about 2 to 3 hours. It's a decent charging speed for the price.

My only minor gripe is the length of the included USB-C cable. Because the Mega 2 doubles so well as a laptop replacement, a longer cable (like 2 meters) would be much more comfortable if you need to use it while plugged into a wall outlet. It's not a dealbreaker by any means, as I easily swapped it for a longer USB-C cable I already had lying around.

The Verdict

The Blackview Mega 2 isn't trying to compete with premium, high-end tablets, and that's okay. It knows exactly what it is: an accessible, highly capable budget device.

Pros:

  • The 12-inch display is fantastic for both media and work.
  • The included accessories (keyboard, mouse, case, pen) provide a complete, out-of-the-box workflow.
  • Unbeatable value for the price.

Cons:

  • The cameras, speakers, and screen are solidly "average" - good enough, but not premium.
  • The 60Hz refresh rate and Unisoc processor mean it's strictly for everyday tasks, not heavy gaming.

Who is this for?
If you need an affordable, large-screen device for media consumption, studying, or light productivity tasks, the Blackview Mega 2 is a fantastic package. However, if your focus is on gaming or heavy computing, you'll need to invest in a more expensive device.

Overall, considering the price and everything included in the box, the Blackview Mega 2 is a fantastic value and a very practical daily driver.
